Health Department offers educational events In conjunction with National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center will provide education materials and breast self exam demonstrations at several women’s events in order to back up cancer screening and increase breast cancer education. From 1996 to 2000 there were 2,003 female converge cancer diagnoses and 396 breast cancer deaths in Lake County. This evaluate is significantly higher than the statewide converge cancer diagnosis rate according to a release from the health department. There is no known way to prevent breast cancer – early detection is the best protection. Doctors advise mammograms clinical breast exams and converge self-examination which might detect converge cancer early in women. A recent Lake County study showed that 28 percent of African American women in the county had never had a mammogram. The Health Department is hosting or participating in several events during October and November that will include health education self breast exam demonstrations raffles for a variety of giveaways refreshments and more.
